People need to learn and grow if they want to improve their performance. Effective teams provide more ideas and output to benefit the entire ministry, sparking growth. These ideas come from experimenting or brainstorming new ways to solve problems.

It is why working on capital campaigns can really matter. They are an all-hands-on-deck project requiring ample planning and consideration. They also demand the team to dedicate themselves to working toward a clearly-defined goal for months or even years.

When vision is set, there needs to be time to cultivate buy-in. Without buy-in there is despondency and the team cannot recognise the deeper purpose and value of their work.

Imagine what this looks like in front of a donor? Is there trust:

  • Are you telling the truth?
  • Do you have their best interests at heart?
  • Do you really care?
  • Will the gift be used as you said it would?
  • Will you treat them with the same level of attention and warmth as before you received the gift?

Donor stewardship creates lasting relationships. There can be an offer for an open invitation to be better stewards by effectively and efficiently leveraging resources.

What is really being said is that effective communication establishes a foundation for lasting impact and support. It will be what distinguishes the ministry in a sea full of causes and what ensures no opportunities will be missed for your ministry. It is here where narratives can be crafted that will touch hearts, engage minds and inspire individuals and the team to take meaningful action, time and time again.

When failure is experienced here, understand that while getting to the truth will be hard, getting reconciliation will be harder. Reconciliation requires that a new vision, based on commitment to mutual respect, be developed.

Shared vision is envisioning exciting possibilities and enlisting others in a shared view of the future – this is the attribute that distinguishes leaders from nonleaders. A shared vision is not an idea. Shared visions pictures that people throughout the organisation carry and it derives its power from a common caring. One of the reasons people seek to build shared visions is their desire to be connected in an important undertaking.
